VIRUS ZINE [7.10.2004]

Inger the Fier is a band which is actually a side project of 2 fellow band members of Magica. Wicked, huh? The two members are the bassist-IngerAlb, and the guitarist-Bat. Yes, that's right, no vocalist. Yes, that's right: instrumental. A style which is not found in Romania from what I know, or if it is, it's too unpopular to be known. They have 2 albums, each with 4 tracks. The songs are marvellous, but the quality suffers a bit. I think that's why certain magazines gave them a bad review. At some points it's hard to tell the music due to the quality of the sound. But I guess that's the disadvantage of not having a label. The idea is original: transforming man into a machine. If you were to look in their site, they'd give a bunch of totally different types of music fitting into their style. Or you could read the interview. But still, back to the article. If you were to also read reviews from magazines, almost all would praise them. Sure, there are a few that complain about the low quality, but there's not much to do about that, and another few who complain about the lack of vocals. It’s a matter of taste I guess. I find it makes them unique. About the biography...they formed a few years ago, and it's a side-project. But I'm repeating myself already. I’ll just let you read the interview and figure it out yourself.

Q:If you were to define your music in a few phrases, how would that be?
A:Our music is a mix of industrial sounds, electro synthesizers & metal guitars. We fit in the industrial metal genre, though we are not interested in labeling our music, but rather in creating songs full of energy & emotions.

Q:How did you come up with the idea to start an instrumental band with your fellow band member?
A:While working in different bands (more or less important in the local underground scene), I developped a taste for experimental music and a desire to create songs that would step out of the "classical" way of composing that most bands still adopt. Working with Bat in Magica made things a lot easier, therefore inviting him to take over the guitars in Inger de Fier was a natural choice. Besides, he has a unique way of playing, which added a more melody to our songs. We decided to stick to instrumental songs for now, because on one hand, so far we were unsuccessful in finding a suitable vocal, and on the other hand (and this was the main reason), we wanted to let people understand & "digest" our music. For us is important to be appreciated for the quality our songs may proove, and not for vocal gimmicks or outstanding guitar solos most bands apply to (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it's not Inger de Fier's style for sure).

Q:Why did you choose the name "inger de fier?"
A:"inger de fier" means "iron angel" in Romanian. I went for this name, because it includes the 2 important elements of our music: the positive musical message (and that means: energy, adrenalyne, and all in between) and the metal elements, which together create our musical mark.

Q:Isn't it hard to practice with Inger de Fier and Magica at the same time?
A:Inger de Fier is a studio project, and it seems it will remain in this stage for some time, since we don't have the money, the equipment, or the right people to take this band to the next level. Therefore, Magica is our main priority. Of course, that doesn't mean we don't take our work with Inger de Fier seriously, or that we would stop any time soon :) Rest assured, this is only the beginning!

Q:ever since the first album, you shown lots of originality, not only using a style not very popular in Romania, but with a theme I don't recall seing. How'd you think of it?
A:The use of electronic sounds in rock music is not very popular in the Romanian underground scene, indeed. On one hand, because here people tend to keep having a taste for the more "classical" rock genres, and on the other hand, because the price of the equipment is prohibitive. However, when I decided on which musical path this band would go, my main interest was to combine my taste for industrial music with my desire of experimenting with various unusual sounds, and not the public's taste. If peoples like our music, it's cool, but if not, that's no problem either, since we keep doing what we like, and most important, the way we want it.

Q: Last Album, in my opinion, showed improvements and has made a better impression on magazines&co than to the first. Where do you think the difference is?
A:To be honest, the promotional campaign for our latest work, "Deadly Games" is still in early stage, so I can't tell you how this material will be viewed in the end, but in our opinion, the new songs show a more mature approach, a better proportion between the electronic sounds and the metal riffs. An improved mix and better sounding loops made all the difference :)

Q: Do you think you can find a label anytime soon?
A: Getting a contract would be nice, of course, but our main goal is to create good music (and having fun doing that), rather than trying like crazy to get our names written on a piece of paper :) We believe that if we do our job right, a label would eventually become interested in Inger de Fier. We want to get our music heard by as many people as possible (and thanks to the Internet, nowadays that's a lot easier), we're interested in getting our songs remixed by capable individuals (notice: if you’d like to remix one of our songs, please get in touch at: ingerdefier@yahoo.com!), or getting them aired on radio stations - a good publicity can create the kind of boost we need. Meanwhile, don't forget to visit our official website - http://www.ingerdefier.go.ro , for the latest news, full mp3 songs, and many more! Thanks!

Underground Unite - it's time to spread the word to friends and foes alike! There's a new machine on the loose: INGER DE FIER ! :)
